Independent financial adviser in Milton Keynes

Our office is in Ampthill, thirteen miles east of Milton Keynes and about twenty five minutes by road. Come to us, or we will come to you.

A city of workplace pensions

Milton Keynes is the only place we cover outside Bedfordshire, and the advice looks least like the advice we give closer to home. A city designated in 1967 has fewer thirty year careers in it and more workplace pensions from a series of employers, and the questions those raise are largely about choices. Where is the money invested, what is it costing you, how much are you putting in, and was any of that a decision anyone actually made rather than a default nobody changed.

Adding them up

Milton Keynes has a lot of large employers within a small area, and people move between them. It is entirely normal to arrive in your fifties with four or five pots, none of them large, and no clear sense of the total. The first useful thing we do is simply add them up. After that we can talk about whether consolidating helps, and be straightforward when one of them is better left alone.

Bonuses, shares and money that arrives unevenly

If a meaningful part of what you earn comes as a bonus or in shares in the company you work for, your planning problem is not a salaried employee’s. Income arrives in lumps, and a great deal of your wealth may be tied to the fortunes of the employer who also pays you. Spreading that risk without giving up the benefit is a real piece of work, and worth doing deliberately.

The first generation to have this conversation

Because the city is young, a lot of Milton Keynes families are reaching the point where inheritance tax matters for the first time, with no previous generation who has been through it. The rules are not intuitive. It is a solvable problem, and there is usually more room to act than people expect, especially early.

The Financial Conduct Authority do not regulate estate planning.
